Yazbek was the result of a visit to the neighbors across the alley from our recording studio in Pasadena, CA. Vahé and Sonia had just acquired a nice shopping mall organ, and during their demonstration of it they played, sharing the keyboard, an Armenian folk song which they called "Yazbek." I happened to have brought along to their living room our 2-track mixdown deck, our trusty Echoplex, and some SM-58s. As Vahé and Sonia played, I recorded the output of their stereo speakers dry on one track, and manipulated the signal from the other speaker with the Echoplex onto the other track. We took this recording back to our studio, transferred it to our old Tascam 80-8, added bass, guitar, drums and vocals and came up with this version (.au) of the song.
